The Children's Place $1.99 Shirts & Shorts

The Children's Place has a great deal going on right now with infants/Boys/Girls Shirts and Shorts being clearenced at $1.99. I went shopping this past weekend at our local mall to pick up a few summer items for my little ones since we are going to Disney World this coming weekend and much to my excitement, I found they were marking down their summer items very cheap!
Also, the Disney Store is offering 25% off their Halloween Costumes in case any of you are trying to get ideas on what your little one wants to be for Halloween. My son just had to have the Peter Pan costume, too cute!

What Can You Freeze? Tips on Freezing?

After re-organizing my freezer this afternoon trying to make space for some more dinner meats that I was able to pick up on sale this week, I started thinking about writing a post about what you can freeze. Believe it or not, before I started stockpiling and saving money on grocery bills, I had no idea what you could really freeze and for how long. Hopefully, I will be able to give you an idea of how to take advantage of more grocery deals by being able to freeze your stockpile items.

Tips on Freezing
  • First off, You will want to make sure when freezing that you are conscious of your space in the freezer. You want to freeze your food flat in freezer bags that can stack easily horizontally or vertically in the freezer to maximize your space and allow more food to go in there. For example, I have found in the past that when I make Waffles for my children and if I have any left overs, I will lay them flat on a cookie sheet, place them in the freezer for less than hour just so they become slightly frozen, then I stack them into a freezer bag so I am able to re-heat one at a time because they did not stick together.

Freezer Burn

  • Avoid freezer burn by using airtight containers or by wrapping whatever you are freezing with freezer paper or plastic wrap and then place the item into a freezer bag.

Items you can Freeze

  • Meats such as steaks, hamburger meat, poultry, pork, deli meats, etc. These type of meats freeze well for 3 months

  • Bread, cakes & cookies all freeze well too, believe it or not! These items can be put into your freezer for around two months, while cookies can last up to one year in the freezer. Biggest tip is to make sure that you store these items in a freezer bag or airtight containers so the bread, cookies, etc. will not become stale when you thaw them out

  • Cheese: Hard or semi-hard cheese can be frozen if cut into 1/2 to 1 pound blocks. Wrap in plastic wrap and put into freezer bags. Use within 4 to 6 months of freezing

  • Milk: You can freeze skim, 1%, and 2% Milk gallons. Just make sure you give the milk a little extra expansion room in the jug during the freezing process so you don't have a mess! Milk can be frozen for up to 3 months. Just thaw in the refrigerator and shake well before using.

  • Fruit and Vegetables: Wash them thoroughly before placing them into an airtight container. I especially love freezing my strawberries, peaches & blueberries that my kids pick at a "pick-it-berry" farm. These frozen fruits work great in recipes, desserts or even topping on their waffles/pancakes.

Do you have any tips on freezing or special items you like to freeze? if so, please feel free to share.

What Can You Stockpile?

In a posting last week "How I get my grocery bill down to $50 a week", I talked about stockpiling items when you can purchase them at a rock bottom price or get them for Free. BUT what exactly can you stockpile?

Food
  • When I find a GREAT deal on meats, I will purchase extra for dinners for the upcoming weeks and store them in my freezer

  • Bread....YUP that freezes too! About a month ago, Food Lion had a sale on their store brand sandwich bread where I was able to purchase two loaves of bread for about $0.75 for both. So I stocked up on bread and stored them in my freezer. When you are ready to use the bread, I typically take a loaf of bread out the day before, let it thaw, and it still taste fresh!

  • Deli meats for sandwiches - typically with a sale at Food Lion matched with their Deli FLIP (Food Lion Printable), you can get a lb. of sliced deli meat for $1.00 - $1.50 per lb. Great stock-up opportunity to where I don't have to pay full price for sandwich meat during the school year

  • Dry Goods such as pasta, Mac N'Cheese, Rice, Cereal, etc. typically have a longer shelf life so you will be just fine storing these products in your pantry if you know you will be consuming these within the year

  • Muffin mixes & Cookie Mixes - if I know it will be awhile before making these items, I will go ahead and freeze these too!

  • Other freezer items that I store: Shredded Cheese, Hot Dog/Hamburger Buns, Hot Dogs, etc.

Other Items that I stockpile which you should never, EVER, have to pay full price for:

  • Toilet Paper - typically you can get this product at a rock bottom price

  • Toothpaste - you should never have to pay OOP for this item unless it is paying the tax for it! Typically you can get Toothpaste for FREE with CVS deals

  • Toothbrushes - FREE

  • Razors & Shaving Cream - Close to FREE if not FREE

  • Shampoo & Conditioner - FREE

  • Certain brands of Make-up - Close to free if not FREE

  • Mouthwash - FREE

  • Laundry detergent - typically you can stockpile these items when they are on sale at CVS & grocery store deals

  • Cleaning Supplies - FREE

  • Aluminum Foil - FREE

  • Sandwich bags, etc. - Close to FREE

  • Deodorants - FREE

  • Stain Remover such as Shout - Close to FREE

  • Tons & Tons of Johnson's Buddies Soap for my Kids - FREE

  • Facial cleanser & Scrubs - Close to FREE

  • Kotex feminine products - FREE

  • Air Freshener and Plug-ins - FREE

  • Napkins and Paper Plate Products - FREE

  • Condiments such as Ketchup & Mustard - FREE

Do you stockpile and freeze certain items? IF SO, please post a comment & share. I would love to know what other people are doing when it comes to stockpiling their goodies!

How I get my Grocery Bill down to $50 a Week

Thanks everyone for visiting my Blog! I have had many people ask questions about how do I keep my grocery bill down to $50 a week. I would love to help everyone out with how I do this!

The first most important thing in Couponing to me, at least, is to be able to start collecting coupons. I usually have a Sunday newspaper delivered to my house, but depending if there is a lot of coupons that I see in there that I know that I would use, I would go to the store and buy at least one more newspaper to get the Coupons. I also have great family and neighbors that will swap coupons if I need something or if they might need another coupon in return.

On more ways to get Coupons, READ HERE on my discussion of coupons

That is Step #1 to me.

From there, I really watch the weekly sales circular to match them up with my coupons. If I find certain items that are close to free or free & it is something that my family will use, I will try to stockpile the most I can that week depending on the amount of coupons that I have. For example, my kids eat pop-tarts and Eggos like they are going out of style. So I will usually purchase 20 plus Qs from Ebay so when I see a great sale where I can get them for free, I will stock up like crazy on them. By stockpiling items such as that during sales, the only thing you will have to buy during your normal grocery trips is other stockpiling deals, necessity items such as Milk, bread, eggs, and items that you would use for Dinners.

Another great tip on Dinner meats, I don't know where you normally go Grocery shopping at, but I have a Bottom Dollar Store here in Mooresville which is a subsidiary company of Food Lion without all the bells & Whistles of advertising. Thus it makes the prices there a lot cheaper and they have the items you would normally purchase at a Food Lion. I will typically buy my meat there if it is on a great deal. I also have a deep freezer where I can buy extra meat if it is too great to pass up. For example this week, Bottom Dollar is having a sale on their Frozen Turkey Breast $0.97/lb. That is a GREAT DEAL on turkey so I will probably purchase at least three of them, put them in the freezer for a later dinner.

After awhile of doing things such as the above, my grocery trips average monthly to $50/week. Some weeks I might only spend $30 and the following week I might spend $70 but in all, it averages out the same. The biggest tip I can offer about stockpiling is to get items that you normally use when they are at rock bottom prices, get as much as you can so you never have to pay full price for it and then you only have to buy necessities when you need it.

I will be posting all my grocery deals that I do on Weds. & Thurs. on my blog so everyone can see what I bought, where I got the coupons and overall how much I have spent on my groceries so YOU CAN DO IT TOO!

Please feel free at anytime to post comments, share you savings/grocery trips with everyone on here, and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Over the years with me saving my family so much money on groceries and household products, I am extremely happy to share my saving tips & ways with you.

My methodology on Saving, Using Coupons, and Stockpiling

Just to give everyone an idea of how I grocery shop with a budget of only $50 a week and I still get a buggy full of name brand groceries for my family. First off, I need to explain the rule of when you find a GREAT almost free deal, you want to stockpile those items so when the time comes you don't have to pay full price for those items when you need them. So that leaves your grocery trip basically shopping for your necessities that you need for the week such as Milk, Bread, eggs, etc. and then great bargain deals. It may sound hard to believe, but I promise you, It can be done! So far for this week, I have only spent $19.01 on my groceries. Now that sounds like I have hardly bought anything for my poor family to eat, but if anyone walked into my house and viewed my pantry, it would be opening Pandora's Box of Food with the amount that I have stockpiled. I promise there is a rule to this madness and in the end, your wallet will be happy and your stomach will be full!
